The overall objective of the Investigations Unit is to enforce PrivCom’s mandate, which is to regulate the use of personal information by organisations and protect the rights of individuals under the Personal Information Act 2016 (PIPA). The Investigations Unit aims to achieve this by defining investigative principles, policies & procedures, conducting investigations concerning compliance with PIPA, making orders to ensure compliance with PIPA, and collaborate with internal business units to assist with developing best practice procedures and training, amongst other things. The intent of the Investigations Unit is to facilitate, manage and settle an Individuals request to exercise their privacy rights, as entitled under PIPA.
