On Thursday, 14 November at 5:30 PM, PIPA & You – An Individual’s Guide brought together an engaging panel of speakers and a motivated audience to discuss the Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA) and its implications for individuals.
Hosted by Deputy Commissioner Angie Farquharson, the event featured Privacy Commissioner Alexander White and Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Georgia Fevriere as the main presenters. They were joined by distinguished guests The Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, Minister of Cabinet Office, and Kennett Naylor from the PATI/PIPA Unit.
Minister Caesar kicked off the evening with welcoming remarks that set a positive tone for the event, highlighting the essential role that PIPA plays in safeguarding personal information. Following her speech, Commissioner White and Assistant Commissioner Fevriere presented a comprehensive overview of individual rights under PIPA. They guided attendees through the application of the legislation in their daily lives, empowering them with knowledge about their privacy rights and how to exercise them.
After a brief intermission, the event evolved into an interactive Q&A session. Privacy Commissioner White, Assistant Commissioner Fevriere, and Kennett Naylor from the PATI/PIPA Unit participated in the discussion, offering expert insights and addressing audience inquiries with clarity and depth. This vibrant discussion provided attendees with the opportunity to ask urgent questions and gain a deeper understanding of privacy issues and PIPA’s enforcement after 1 January 2025.
